Who We Are

Our Friars

Blogs by HNP Members

Follow the activities and reflections of our friars to gain a glimpse of the life and the values of the Franciscans. These blogs offer personal perspectives using text, photos and videos. They represent just a small percentage of the Province's many friars with diverse experiences and ministries. The friars welcome new followers to their blogs.

Be A Franciscan: News and Views from the Franciscan Vocation Ministry
Maintained by HNP's vocation director, Fr. Brian Smail, OFM, the blog includes updates about formation events and thoughts from Fr. Brian, regional vocation directors and student friars, as well as friars throughout the Province.
William DeBiase Encuentro Franciscano
This blog, maintained by the Holy Name Province Hispanic Ministry Committee, was created to continue the momentum established by the Encuentro event in October 2009. The collaborative effort between friars and lay partners-in-ministry is a forum to reflect on ways to support Latino ministry in the Province as well as to inform readers about events.
Steve DeWitt A Franciscan Abroad
Student friar Br. Stephen DeWitt, OFM, provides "a Franciscan commentary on the intersection of religion, politics, and social justice." His topics include immigration, abortion, health care, the sexual abuse crisis, and world events. Br. Stephen also writes about his internship year in Bolivia and Peru.
William DeBiase Franciscan
Fr. William DeBiase, OFM, of Philadelphia, a friar since 1960, offers observations about his life, the liturgical year, and other themes. His blog includes a podcast titled "Simple Thoughts." Fr. William is a member of the Province's Franciscan Ministry of the Word (MOW).
John Anglin The Wandering Friar
Fr. John Anglin, OFM, of St. Petersburg, Fla., a friar since 1964, provides information and thoughts about his travels, parish missions, gospel passages, special events, and more. He writes, "this blog is intended to be an extension of my ministry as a member of HNP's MOW."
