Holy Name Friars Participate in International Chapter Eight friars represented the Province at the International Chapter of Mats last month in Assisi, where nearly 1,800 friars gathered to celebrate the 800th anniversary of the Order’s founding.
Franciscan Family Commemorates 800th Anniversary Nearly 120 members of the Franciscan family commemorated the Order’s eighth centenary last week with a study day at the Province’s Midtown New York City location.
Washington Theological Union Graduates Five Friars Julian Jagudilla, Hugh Macsherry, Stephen Mimnaugh, Cidouane Joseph and Lawrence Anderson graduated last week from Washington Theological Union. Dominic Monti was the graduation speaker.
Province Honored by Allegany Sisters at Anniversary Celebration The Franciscan Sisters of Allegany honored Holy Name Province with a Distinguished Partner in Ministry Award at its anniversary event, with Provincial Minister John O’Connor as keynote speaker.

Ministry of the Word Team Discusses the Future After a busy Lenten season of preaching in 11 states, the friars of Holy Name’s Ministry of the Word gathered in Florida April 26 to 28 for their annual meeting.
Three Friars Earn Spiritual Direction Certification Richard Flaherty, Barry Langley and Daniel Murray were among 13 candidates earning certification in spiritual direction from the San Damiano House of Prayer Spiritual Direction Training Program.

St. John the Baptist Province Celebrates 150 Years Friars, family and friends of St. John the Baptist Province gathered in Cincinnati last month to mark the 800th anniversary of the Order as well as the 150th anniversary of the province.
Luis Herrara Named Archbishop of Cuenca Fr. Luis Cabrera Herrara, General Definitor of the Order for Latin America and the Caribbean, was named by Pope Benedict XVI as archbishop of Cuenca, Ecuador.
