St. Anthony's Guild Director Dies
John Piccione, 44, director of St. Anthony's Guild, died Feb. 22 after a battle with leukemia. A Mass of Christian Burial for the friar, who was widely known and respected by firefighters in North Jersey, was celebrated Saturday in Paterson, N.J.

Province Ministries Observe Lent
In addition to more traditional observances, churches and ministries from Boston to Tampa are offering innovative ways for people to express their Lenten journeys.

Gerald McCaffrey Inducted into SBU Hall of Fame
His compassion and concern for decades of students, as well as his trademark pipe and sandals, were among the many memories of Gerald McCaffrey shared recently at St. Bonaventure University, where he was inducted into its Athletic Hall of Fame.

Services Held for Thomas Sullivan
Funeral services were held at St. Bonaventure Church in Paterson, N.J., Feb. 21 for Thomas Sullivan.

Eight HNP Friars to Participate in Assisi Chapter
Eight friars from Holy Name Province will be travelling to Assisi next month for the International Chapter of Mats, where they will join more than 1,500 Franciscans from around the world.

Province Reactivates SFO Fraternity in Florida
Richard Trezza, spiritual assistant to several regions of the Secular Franciscan Order under the Province’s leadership, was at a Mass in Hialeah, Fla., in late January to reactivate a fraternity.

Parishioners at St. Stephen of Hungary Church are gathering to hear speakers discuss tolerance, inclusion and acceptance in a homily series called “Tolerance Sundays.”

Holy Name Province is mourning the deaths of the father of a friar as well as a member of the Franciscan Sisters of Allegany.

Ringwood Residents Grateful for Home, Family
A common phrase among Franciscans, “we are family,” is never more apparent than at the Province’s Holy Name Friary in northern New Jersey, which 29 senior friars call home. The friary and skilled nursing care home includes several members of other Franciscan orders, including the Society of the Atonement and OFM Capuchin.

Vocation Office in the News
Holy Name Province’s “Life Shift” ad is continuing to draw national media attention, recently being reported on by CNN and featured in one of New York City’s daily newspapers.

Tampa Retreat Explores the Bonaventure Journey
Franciscan friar Andre Cirino and secular Franciscan Josef Raischl will explore a “Journey of the Human Person into God” during an eight-day retreat this month at the Franciscan Center in Florida.

Sisters To Host Lenten Retreat
A Lenten retreat is being offered later this month by the School Sisters of St. Francis at its St. Francis Center for Renewal in Bethlehem, Pa.
